FLIP IT FOR CHARITY!

7 Feb

So this is actually happening… I’m taking part in the Olney Pancake race next Tuesday! I would firstly like to point out that I may still be drunk from the night before. I’m going to the Drapers Awards party in London, as my shop has been listed as one of the “Inspiring Indies,” which I am super excited about! So if you are coming to support me, would you stand at the finishing line with wine, please!

I’ve lived in Olney for just after two years and find this tradition quite hilarious, actually! You run armed with a skirt, apron, head scarf, and a pancake, obviously… The race is a 400metre sprint and has been ran since 1445! I’ve been told that in the last couple of years it has become quite competitive, as Olney competes against a town called Liberal in America called. (And we beat them last year!)

Those of you who know me are fully aware of my ridiculously competitive nature. So I am currently trying to psyche myself to be OK with not winning. This is because the girl who won it last year is not only 18 and tall, but also a member of the Milton Keynes Athletic Club! And she is running again this year.

However, there is also a prize for the person who raises the most money for charity. And I am hoping that person will be my friend Alice. She is raising money for CLIMB, a charity that she discovered when her daughter Elfie, who is now two and a half, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called 3 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase deficiency.

Alice has done amazingly and raised almost £600 in a very short space of time. You can help her further by donating just a couple of pounds!
