NO EXCUSES!

16 Jul

Fitness has always been a big part of my life, which is why I find it hard to understand people who don’t do anything at all when it comes to exercise.

One of my best friends used to hate sports and even got out of PE at school. Just over a year ago, I started dragging her running with me and then introduced her to circuit classes. She is now completely hooked on exercise and feels a lot better about herself. A few months ago, she told me that she always just wanted to be skinny, but she now knows what it feels to be fit and it’s amazing.

She has it spot on. There are many slim women who don’t need to exercise in order to lose or manage their weight. They may look the part but often have very little strength and can lack energy.

Then there are those, who have been thinking about starting some form of exercise for ages but haven’t actually bitten the bullet and done so. I completely get that. It’s the starting of something new, which is the hardest part. But once you are in the routine, you will not want to miss a single session.

One of the women I’ve started doing personal training sessions with had a baby just over six months ago. She admitted that she had been coming up with several excuses and putting off starting exercising. But she wants to have another baby fairly soon and is determined to get fit before falling pregnant again. She now does two one on one sessions with me a week as well as coming to my POP Fitness class twice and squeezing in some power walks and jogs too. I couldn’t be more proud of her.

So without sounding like a complete b…h, what I’m trying to say is: There will always be excuses so stop them and get active! One good way of getting motivated and stick to the exercise is to find a local class with great atmosphere or start doing something with a friend. I promise you won’t regret it!

Great post. I am finally seeing how my tendency to put on weight easily has been a blessing in disguise – many naturally slim women don’t exercise or watch what they eat – they therefore do not know the glorious feeling of being fit and healthy inside out :)

Thanks for the nice feedback! It is so true. Many naturally slim people never do anything. Equally, there are larger ladies who say they are happy the way they are. Which is fine and hats off to them, but what when the weight starts affecting their health?!
